Maha Kumbh 2025 stampede, CM Yogi appeals- devotees should not go towards Sangam Nose, Amrit Snan cancelled

A stampede occurred on Mauni Amavasya at Maha Kumbh 2025 in Prayagraj between poles 11 to 17 at Sangam Nose. The injured have been admitted to the hospital. Official information about the casualties has not been revealed yet.

We appeal to the government that:

The seriously injured should be taken to the nearest best hospitals with the help of air ambulances and immediate medical arrangements should be made.

Arrangements should be made to identify the bodies of the deceased and hand them over to their relatives and send them to their place of residence.

⁠Immediate efforts should be made to reunite those who are separated.

Surveillance should be increased by making good use of helicopters.

Keeping the unbroken Amrit tradition of ‘Shahi Snan’ going on since the Satyuga, arrangements should be made to conduct the ‘Shahi Snan of Mauni Amavasya’ amidst safe management parallel to relief work.

We also appeal to the devotees to work with restraint and patience in this difficult time and complete their pilgrimage peacefully. The government should learn a lesson from today’s incident and make additional arrangements for the stay, accommodation, food, water and other facilities of the devotees.

Wishing speedy recovery to all those injured in the accident.

Maha Kumbh-2025, dear devotees who have come to Prayagraj,

Take bath at the ghat of Maa Ganga near which you are, do not try to go towards Sangam Nose.

All of you should follow the instructions of the administration, cooperate in making arrangements.

Bathing is going on peacefully at all the ghats of Sangam. Do not pay any attention to any rumour.

Mauni Amavasya bathing is going on… Today I did not go to Sangam Ghat because there is a huge crowd there. ‘Amrit’ is flowing in the entire Ganga and Yamuna stream. If you take a bath in Ganga or Yamuna anywhere, you will get ‘Amrit’. It is not necessary that you have to take a dip in Sangam only.

Why is Mauni Amavasya special?

According to the Hindu calendar, the new moon day of the month of Magha is called Mauni Amavasya. Fasting and bathing in silence on this day have special significance. ‘Mauni means silence, and by remaining silent on this day, one attains self-peace, restraint, and spiritual strength.

It is believed that bathing in holy rivers and making donations on this day destroys sins and leads to salvation. In particular, bathing in the Ganges is of utmost importance, and devotees bathe at the Sangam in Prayagraj to earn merit.

This day is also considered auspicious for worshipping the Sun God and ancestors, thereby receiving grace and blessings.
