What Did Naidu Receive from Tata’s ₹10,000 Crore Wealth?
Former Tata Group Chairman, Ratan Tata, included his youngest associate, Shantanu Naidu, in his will. As part of his ₹10,000 crore wealth, Tata left his stake in Naidu’s venture, Goodfellows. Additionally, he waived Naidu’s education loan. For context, Naidu launched Goodfellows, a startup for senior citizens, in 2022 with Tata’s support.
Ratan Tata and Shantanu Naidu’s friendship, a tale of shared passions and mutual respect, began in 2014. Their connection was forged over their love for animals, which led Naidu to launch a project to protect stray dogs. To fund this initiative, Naidu reached out to Tata, who was impressed by the project and invited him to Mumbai.
This collaboration on Naidu’s project, Motopaws, not only sparked a lasting friendship but also led to the founding of Goodfellows, a company that connects young people with senior citizens for companionship.
Naidu, who deeply appreciates older generations, credits his friendship with Tata for enriching his life. He says, “Many of my closest friends have silver hair and hearts of gold.” Despite briefly pursuing an MBA in the U.S., Naidu returned to Mumbai to fulfil his commitment to working with Tata.
On October 9, 2024, Ratan Tata passed away at the age of 86. Following his mentor’s demise, Naidu shared an emotional tribute on LinkedIn, expressing his grief and gratitude for the friendship they had shared. He wrote, “The hole that this friendship has now left with me, I will spend the rest of my life trying to fill. Grief is the price to pay for love. Goodbye, my dear lighthouse.”
